Most rentals come 'unfurnished' ( which has a different semantic to the US where basic appliances are usually provided). In Australia 'unfurnished' means that neither appliances nor furniture are provided. If renting on your own, you will probably need to get appliances such as fridge, washing machine, microwave, etc. And you will definitely need to purchase beds, desks, chairs, and soft furnishings.
