Where in Australia to study

With so many options to choose from, students and employers often turn to rankings to evaluate universities. There is the US News rankings, Business Week's MBA rankings, UK's university league tables, the Australian 'Group of 8', and the Times Higher Educational Supplement's ranking of world universities. Each of these has its own drawbacks, and consumers of these statistics should understand them before relying on them. For example, the alumni contributions factor in the US News methodology skews the rankings in favour of universities which attract wealthier students/wealthier alumni (vs most value addition) and the THES gives high weightage to peer reviews which is hard to measure/quantify.

The varied goals (different majors, different post-graduation ambitions such as further research, type of job, etc) of students makes it a challenge to rank universities using factors relevant to everyone. So, use the rankings as a guide, but not as the ultimate decider.
